The Passion and Cross of the Lord
The treatise On the Passion of the Lord and on the Cross, having as its starting point Matthew 27, 33-36 (And when they came to a place called Golgotha, there was a place called Skull… And sitting down, they observed what he did), analyzes in detail the Passion of the Lord and its implications. With the saints as a guide and mainly the apostle Paul, since he categorically affirms that what God says is absolutely reliable, he refers to the fact that the prophecies were all fulfilled in the person of Christ. It explains why he was crucified on Golgotha, above the tomb of Adam (according to tradition), why the Jews did not believe in him, the devil’s tricks against Christ, which, however, brought exactly the opposite results. It also refers to the miraculous results of the Lord’s death on the cross, the consequences of the Jews’ attitude, the attraction of pagans and the way in which Christians should carry the cross. Although there are doubts about this treatise, whether it is a genuine work of St. Athanasius, its content is in every way orthodox, powerful and constructive.
